Creating a brand identity program for The CoolStream, an online jazz music streaming station was a labor of love. Unlike many traditional jazz stations which format different styles and eras of jazz into different blocs of programming, The CoolStream prides itself on playing the full gamut of artists as one.
I wanted to create a concept for the station that reflect the eclectic drive of the station. I thought there was no greater way to do this ultimately than to present a mosaic of covers, the colors of which added to the sense of uniqueness in both the music artist, but in the programming approach of the station itself.
The look for the branding evolved from the blue mood look, which is the centerpiece of the station of logo (featuring the silhouetted saxphone players) to a composite of album cover all blended together to create a gallery wall of musical production.
The process of choosing covers was just that– a process as the station features so many artists. Selecting the best examples took some time, but was worth it. There will likely be rotation walls of covers, based on all the cover combinations that were possible for this project.
